in a very quiet evening from a British perspective on the final evening in the Olympic stadium and with just two competitors in action, the British Paralympic athletics team did not add to their 27 track and field medals whilst triple gold winner Dave Weir and Shelly Woods compete in Sunday morning’s Marathon. The highlight of the final night was Oscar Pistorius’s 46.68 400m victory.

Britain’s final medal hope, world champion Nathan Stephens (Anthony Hughes) competed in the F57/F58 javelin and had a tough competition with his first two throws judged no throws and put off by the judges ruling, his final throw was just 33.10m which gave him 702 points and failing to make the top eight for three more throws, he finished in 12th place.

Stephens said: He added, "It wasn’t the best start to the year, having another shoulder operation. It put me seven months out. So I’m seven months behind, I haven’t had a decent strength phase, so fingers crossed the next four years will be injury free, surgery free and we’ll be raring to go come Rio. I’m still only 24. Rio is still there, just hopefully the rule will iron itself out and be more black and white.

In the T36 100m, the 2000 Paralympic champion Hazel Robson (Janice Kaufman) again set a season’s best in her fourth Paralympic final. The 33 year old from Houghton-le-Spring in Durham ran 15.23/0.7, which left her 0.35 from gaining her fourth successive medal at the event in seventh place.

Robson said, “I got off to a really good start but my legs felt like jelly towards the end. It was a really close race though.I was running for my cousin Thomas who also has Cerebral Palsy; I hope I can be an inspiration and role model for him.This has been an amazing experience but even with the crowds I can’t compare it to Sydney when I won a medal. This is my fourth Paralympics but if my legs want to I’ll keep going!”
