Paralympic Workshop

06 October 2009

A world class programme of speakers has been announced for the Paralympic strand of the International Festival of Athletics Coaching (IFAC) 2009.

Led by UKA Head Coach (Paralympics) Peter Eriksson, delegates selecting the Paralympic workshops will be addressed by three additional world leading presenters.

Canadian Sports Psychologist Dr. Penny Werthner will focus her session on the use of biological and neurological feedback to enhance an optimal performance state.

Doctor Wolfgang Potthast from the German Sports University, Cologne, will talk about differences between Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorious (Blade runner) and non-disabled Olympic runners, while Richard Brickley (Scottish Disability Sport) will deliver an insightful session on Paralympic Classification and will add a huge amount of experience from his roles within the highest levels of disability sport on the global stage.

Eriksson will add his own considerable experience in delivering a session on Physiological Differences for Wheelchair Athletes.

In other areas of the conference, former Scottish National Endurance Coach and current IAAF Member Services Senior Manager Peter Thompson will be in Glasgow to lead the ‘Beginners’ Coaching strand.

Thompson has coaching experience from within Europe, Oceania, NACAC, Africa, Asia and South America.

His recent work with the IAAF includes writing ‘Introduction to Coaching – the Official IAAF Guide to Coaching Athletics and editing Run! Jump! Throw!’

The Beginner strand of IFAC will focus on coaching beginners and will support the learning of coaches working within this environment.

Coaches interested in accessing copies of the new IAAF Run! Jump! Throw! resources will be able to get more information from Thompson over the IFAC weekend.

With over 400 delegates already booked up, the last remaining places for the IFAC are available by phoning the booking hotline on 00 44 (0)131 476 7328.

The closing date is Friday 9th October 2009.
