PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT GROUP CONFIRMED BY UK ATHLETICS

UK Athletics has confirmed the composition of the group created to provide additional support and guidance to the UKA Performance team during a crucial period of championships in 2022.

The group of external experts will provide strategic support and challenge to the plans, systems and structures that need to be put in place supporting Tommy Yule as the Head of Performance as well as the Executive.

As previously reported, following an open recruitment process late 2021, UKA opted not to appoint anyone to the role of Technical Director with a view to appointing later this year when a number of key candidates are expected to become available.

The group therefore will provide additional expertise to ensure UKA performance strategy and implementation plans are in place, an immediate priority of which is the positioning of the World Class Programme within the plans and its strategy working towards winning medals at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

Other duties will include:

  • Reviewing progress, monitor and challenge the UKA performance plans and structures on a regular basis.
  • Providing guidance and support to the Head of Performance and wider team as required.
  • Making recommendations to the Head of Performance, CEO and Executive team as required.

The composition of the group includes the following individuals:

  • Steve Cram
  • Stephen Maguire
  • Christine Ohuruogu

Other members will be co-opted based around subject matter as well as a supporting representative from UK Sport to ensure the plans are aligned as the organisation moves towards Paris.

Mark Munro, UKA Interim CEO said:

“I am delighted that we have managed to bring together a fantastic group of experts who really understand what we need to do as UKA and the sport to achieve success at the highest levels. Their systems knowledge and input alongside the appropriate checking and challenge will really help drive us forward in ensuring we are providing the best environments possible to enable athletes and coaches to achieve success in Paris and beyond. I would personally like to thank Steve, Stephen and Christine for stepping up and look forward to seeing UKA progress our performance support work.”
