Perri SHAKES-DRAYTON TO UNDERGO KNEE SURGERY

22/08/2013

European Indoor Champion Perri Shakes Drayton (coach: Chris Zah) is to undergo surgery imminently to repair tears to her cartilage and posterior cruciate ligament after sustaining the injuries during the final of the 400m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow last week.

As soon as the race started Perri felt a ‘wobble’ in her knee and as the race progressed she knew she had sustained a serious injury which tests following her return to the UK, have sadly confirmed. An operation is due to take place in the next few days.

British Athletics Performance Director, Neil Black said:

“Perri is working closely with the British Athletics medical team whose focus is very much to get her back into racing as soon as possible. She has had an incredible season, and it was a major disappointment for her that she suffered this injury in her first global final. We wish her well with her recovery and I have no doubt that she will be back on the track, in top form, next year.”
