Rosie Clarke (Epsom & Ewell; David Harmer) inched closer to third on the UK all-time rankings and a first sub 9:30 steeplechase after a career best run at the Oslo Diamond League.

Clarke gave intent of what might be at the Bislett Games in the Norwegian capital after winning her first steeplechase of the season in Nashville in the USA at the start of the month.

And, having lowered her personal best while on Diamond League duty in Rome last year, Clarke delivered in Oslo as she clocked 9:31.68, taking 0.40 of her previous top mark.

Clarke, 14th in Oslo, is well set on the road to the IAAF World Championships in Doha this year with Hatti Archer’s 9:30.19 the third best ever steeplechase by a British runner.

Elsewhere, in the men’s 100m 2017 Diamond League CJ Ujah champion (Enfield & Haringey; Jonas Dodoo) placed sixth in 10.18 while European silver medallist and two-time British champion Reece Prescod (Enfield & Haringey; Dodoo) pulled up after 65m. Tommy Ramdhan (Bexley; Michael Afilaka) was seventh in 10.28, American Christian Coleman winning in world lead 9.85.

Andy Butchart (Central) stepped down to 3000m after his fastest 5,000m since the Rio 2016 Olympic final at the Rome Diamond League last week and ran 7:43.57 for tenth.

In the women’s 800m European indoor champion Shelayna Oskan-Clarke (Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow; Jon Bigg) was seventh in 2:03.45 on her first Diamond League appearance of the season while Lynsey Sharp (Edinburgh; Harmer) suffered terrible luck at the very start of the second lap being spiked badly.

Meghan Beesley (Birchfield Harriers; Michael Baker) was an extremely late addition into the women’s 400m hurdles and battled to clock 57.13 for eighth. Morgan Lake (Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow; Fuzz Caan) opened her outdoor campaign with a 1.88m for seventh in the women’s high jump. Ben Claridge (Abingdon; James Hillier) ran in the men’s national 400m and clocked a 48.64 season’s best for fourth.
