Everyone at UKA was saddened to hear of the passing of renowned athletics statistician and historian Peter Matthews this weekend.

Best known for his British Athletics, Annual, which records the detailed facts and figures relating to the previous year’s British athletics scene, Matthews also edited the International Athletics Annual, produced by the worldwide Association of Track & Field Statisticians (ATFS).

Also responsible for the UK merit rankings, he co-edited and published Athletics International, and as one of the sports foremost athletics statistician and analyst, he wrote, compiled or edited many other books, and was a former editor of the Guinness Book of Records.

A prolific announcer and commentator for many years, Peter also found time for the sport domestically serving 25 years as president of the Borough of Enfield Harriers and the merged club Enfield and Haringey, and as president of the UK Counties Athletics Union.

As part of the fabric of the sport in the UK and across the world he will be much missed, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
