Phillips Idowu

Leading triple-jump athlete Phillips Idowu has withdrawn from the prestigious Norwich Union London Grand Prix.

Idowu damaged a muscle in his back while competing at the Norwich Union World Trials & UK Championships in Manchester on Sunday and, despite intensive treatment, has failed to regain fitness in time to compete at Crystal Palace tomorrow.

UK Athletics Senior Performance Manager, Aston Moore said:

"Phillips is obviously disappointed to have to withdraw from the Norwich Union London Grand Prix, but he has made the best decision as the back injury he aggravated in Manchester requires more treatment and recovery time before he resumes competition.

He remains 100% focused on competing at the World Championships in Japan. The UK Athletics team share Phillips confidence that he can be ready for Osaka."
