It was a rather quiet night for GB & NI with only a handful of athletes making the trans Atlantic trip to New York for leg six of the 2014 Diamond League.

Tiffany Porter (coach: Rana Reider) got an electric start in the women’s 100mH, however she didn’t quite have the strength to hold it together over the second half of the race, finishing fifth in 12.89.

In the women’s 3000m, Julia Bleasdale continued her return to form with a sixth place finish, running the majority of the race in the lead group. Bleasdale’s time, 8.48.90, was just shy of her personal best, but puts her top of the Power of 10 rankings.

There were two Brits in the women’s 400m; reigning world champion Christine Ohuruogu (Lloyd Cowan) in lane three and Shana Cox (George Williams) in lane eight. In the end neither woman really got into the race, with Cox finishing sixth in a 52.11 season’s best, Ohuruogu a disappointing eighth.

The were only two British males in action on the night, the first of which was James Ellington (Reider) who ran a good bend, despite being in lane two, to finish seventh in 20.57.

The final Brit in action was Michael Rimmer (Jon Bigg) and he could only manage tenth despite a season’s best of 1.46.75.

There’s now a three week break in the Diamond League calender, before it returns to Europe for the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne, at which British Athletics will be bringing you full coverage.
