Postponement Of Congress 2007

16 October 2007

Since 2000 the Annual Congress has been an opportunity for all areas of athletics in the UK to come together to discuss the issues of the day, and to forge, renew and strengthen existing relationships . In considering how valuable time is the team at UK Athletics are working hard to ensure that future Congress’ continue to be of great significance to all who attend.

The last ten months has seen UK Athletics appoint a new Chairman and Chief Executive with a view to forging a clear strategy for athletics that drives all future decisions and gives everyone in the sport a real clarity of purpose to deliver that vision. Development of these plans are well underway and the organisation will be looking to publish a detailed strategy at the beginning of 2008 following extensive stakeholder consultation.

It is with this in mind, the Home Nations and UK Athletics have taken the decision to postpone 2007 Congress, initially held in the diary for the end of the year. This recognises the time commitment made by those within the sport to attend Congress, and the consequent obligation on UK Athletics and the Home Nations to ensure any such day is as valuable as possible to the attendees.

The postponement also gives us the opportunity to gather your feedback on recent Congresses and we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to tell us what you would like to see at any future event so we can incorporate your thoughts into our planning process. Please email us at inspire@ukathletics.org.uk with your views and we look forward to hearing from you.

The UK Athletics Awards will still take place on Saturday 1 December 2007 and full details will be issued shortly.
