Reece Prescod (club: Enfield & Haringey; coach: Jonas Dodoo) opened his outdoor season over 100m with a sub-ten second clocking on the way to fourth at the second Diamond League of the year in Shanghai.

Prescod posted 9.97 in an ultra competitive race as fellow Brits Andrew Pozzi (Stratford; Santiago Antunez), Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (Newham & Essex Beagles; Lance Brauman) and Holly Bradshaw (Blackburn: Scott Simpson) were all also in action.

The final event of the meet, Prescod ran strong to finish fourth in 9.97 – the fourth time legally he’s gone under ten in his career and earlier than he did this time last season, which bodes well for the two-time British champion and European silver medalist ahead of a World Championship year.

American pair Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman were split by a photo finish in 9.86, the former taking it with South African Akani Simbine third in 9.95.

European silver medallist Mitchell-Blake showed that he is making progress during the early season as he clocked a season’s best 20.60 for fifth in the 200m.

Mitchell-Blake opened his season over the half lap at the first Diamond League of 2019 in Doha and improved in both place and time in Shanghai having travelled from the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama.

Pozzi, like Prescod in getting his outdoor season underway in Shanghai, looked strong throughout his 110m hurdles race, placing sixth in 13.39.

For the 2018 world indoor champion over 60m hurdles it marks a good start to the season after a brief outing indoors back in February and March.

Meanwhile Bradshaw, who claimed European silver during a fine indoor season at the start of the year, also opened her outdoor campaign in the pole vault with a height of 4.42m.
