18 April 2011

European Athletics has announced that British teen endurance prodigy Charlotte Purdue has been voted as the Women’s European Athlete of the Month for March.

Purdue, the 2010 SPAR European Cross Country Championships junior women’s champion, finished 14th at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, Spain, in her first major championship in the senior ranks.

There was further GB success with Mo Farah finishing second in the men’s vote after running his first-ever half marathon – clocking a superb 1:00:23 to win the New York City Half Marathon last month.

European Athletics’ monthly poll received overwhelming support from thousands of athletics fans and media alike this month from all over Europe.

The European Athlete of the Month initiative was launched in January 2007 and is designed to recognise outstanding performers at all levels of the sport in Europe.
