QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS

Athletics in the UK has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours announced overnight with a Knighthood for Brendan Foster, an OBE for UK Athletics board member Mike Whittingham and an MBE for Ian Beattie.

Foster, the former 3000m World Record Holder and founder of the Great North Run is recognised for his work for International and National sport and Culture in the North East of England, and Beattie, the Chair of Scottish Athletics is recognised for his services to athletics.

Whittingham, who joined the UKA board at the end of 2019, is recognised for his work as Director of High Performance at the Sportscotland Institute of Sport.

Also Nairn Road Runner’s coach Gordon Maine and Oxfordshire’s Jill Slatter also receive recognition for services to the sport, whilst Jackie Brock Doyle – the Executive Director for Communications at World Athletics – has been recognised for her work with a CBE.
