In one of the first big marathon events of 2019, there were some encouraging results at the Dubai Marathon for British wheelchair racers.

Commonwealth bronze medallist Jade Jones-Hall (Ian Thompson, New Marske) recorded her second fastest ever marathon time with a 1:43.12 clocking to place second behind Switzerland’s Sandra Graf. She’s only once gone quicker over the distance and that was in Boston during 2017 where she recorded a time of 1:41.44.

Callum Hall (Ian Thompson, Leeds City) posted the third fastest time of his career in 1:37.57, his quickest coming at the same event 12 months prior. He was seventh across the line in the race won by reigning Paralympic champion, Marcel Hug.

2018 World Para Athletics Marathon Cup T52 gold medallist, Rob Smith (Job King, Coventry), was another to set one of his fastest ever times over the 26.2-mile distance, recording 1:56.40. His PB came in Dubai last year (1:55.51) but he delivered once again at the season opener.

Elsewhere, T53 athlete Gary Cooper (Job King, Coventry) posted a time of 2:06.01, his second quickest marathon.
