European U20 800m gold medallists Isabelle Boffey (coach: Luke Gunn; club: Enfield & Haringey) and Oliver Dustin (Graeme Mason; Border) took important wins to help the British Junior team to a third place finish at Manchester International.

Boffey showed her rivals a clean pair of heels to cut the tape first in 2:06.99 well clear of the rest of the field, with Dustin producing a big last 100m to win the men’s equivalent, stopping the clock in 1:50.08.

Tom Keen (Mark Vile; Cambridge & Coleridge) added his name to the list of winners with victory in the men’s mile in a four-way fight on the last lap, negotiating his way out of a tight spot just after the bell before making his move down the back straight.

Thomas Young (Joseph McDonnell; Charnwood) claimed the first gold of the day in the ambulant men’s 100m with a run just outside his personal best. Young finished second overall but took victory after classification calculations.

In the field, Lewis Byng (Stuart Carlaw; Stratford-Upon-Avon) was the only winner on the night as he threw 18.06m to win the men’s shot put. Teammate Serena Vincent (Bronwin Carter; City of Portsmouth) was third in women’s equivalent.

In total, there were 19 British junior medallists, with James Tomlinson (Paul Jensen; Pembrokeshire) one of those who took silver, with a 58.43m best in the men’s discus, with fellow Welshman Remi Adebiyi (Darryn McAtee; Newport) clocking 9:11.54 for silver in the men’s 3000m steeplechase.

Frankie Johnson (Simon Eastwood; Bedford & County) cleared 4.96m in the men’s pole vault to gain a three-way silver with Jade Spencer-Smith (Ellie Kormis; Harrow) replicating his success in the women’s pole vault clearing a best height of 3.96m to take second.

Both British Junior 400m runners both claimed bronze with Ethan Brown (Lloyd Cowan; Blackheath & Bromley) clocking 47.28s, and Louise Evans (Linford Christie; Blackheath & Bromley) with 54.45s. Saskia Millard (Luke Gunn; Herne Hill) would also finish third in the women’s 3000m.

Other podium spots followed for Erin Wallace (Andy Young; Giffnock North) in the mile as she ran a PB of 4:44.00 for third place behind Aimee Pratt (Vincente Modahl; Sale Harriers Manchester) who was rewarded for her front-running heroics with a time of 4:38.48.

Tre Thomas (Eliska Binks; Charnwood) and Jenna Blundell (Julie Alexander; Team Bath), claimed 110m and 100m hurdles bronze medals respectively, with Hannah Kelly (Les Hall; Bolton) third in the women’s 200m in 24.49s (-0.6).

Elsewhere, Cameron Corbishley (Andi Drake; Medway & Maidstone) clocked a meeting record time of 11:44.61 in the 3000m race walk, with GB Junior Matthew Crane (Noel Carmody; Bexley) taking third and Pagen Spooner (Andi Drake; Hyde Park Harriers) coming home second with a personal best time of 14:46.77 in the women’s equivalent.

The T38 100m world record holder, Sophie Hahn (Leon Baptiste; Charnwood), also made an appearance in the women’s ambulant race, claiming victory in 12.72s (1.0) against British teammate Kadeena Cox (Matt Cullen; Sale Harriers Manchester) who took second in 13.81s (1.0).
