IN THE men’s 100m Jeffrey Lawal-Balogun (Kent) finished in third place 10.29 (1.0) after a 10.28 heat (1.1) which were both personal bests. He then went on to win his 200m race in a pb of 20.38 (1.4) and went straight to the top of the Pof10 rankings while Leon Baptiste (Enfield & Haringey) finished third in his 200m race in 20.57 (1.1) – also a lifetime best. The 400m produced two excellent performances from winner Robert Tobin (Basingstoke Mid Hants) in 45.15 and runner-up Martyn Rooney (Croydon) in his first race after injury with 45.35. Ben Sumner (Enfield & Haringey) finished in second place in the 400mH with 50.58 which was also a lifetime best. Montell Douglas (Blackheath & Bromley) won the 100m in 11.41 (1.0) and also the 200m in a pb of 23.34 (1.7) with Donna Fraser (Croydon in third with 23.78. Marilyn Okoro (Shaftesbury Barnet) took the 400m in 52.34.

Poland

European Cup Combined Events Super League, Szczecin, Poland

IN the women’s heptathlon Great Britain finished in sixth place with 17043 points behind the winners Poland 18007 points. The points aggregate is the combined scores of three athletes from each country. Individually Phyllis Agbo (Thames Valley) finished in seventh place with 5939 points, just 13 points short of her pb, Grace Clements (Dartford) 13th (5740) pb, Lucy Boggis (Shaftesbury Barnet) 23rd (5364) pb and Catherine Holdsworth (Colchester) 28th (5184).

Spain

27-28 June

European Cup Combined Events First League, Zaragoza, Spain

IN the men’s decathlon Great Britain finished in sixth place with 22118 points behind the winners Spain 22692 points. Ben Hazell (Basingstoke & Mid Hants) improved his pb by over 300 points in finishing third with 7726 points. Edward Dunford (Birchfield) recorded a season’s best in finishing with 7204 points in 18th place and Kevin Sempers (Trafford) 7188 points finished in 19th place.

Austria

SET OSHO (Belgrave) was the pick of the British athletes with a second place in the 400m 47.35.

Belgium

EAP Meeting, Nivelles, Belgium

JAMES ELLINGTON (Belgrave) finished in second place in a pb of 10.27 (1.3) and followed it up with another second place in the 200m with 21.10 (1.0). Angie Broadbelt-Blake (Thames Valley) ran a pb 13.54 (0.8) in the 100mH. Zoe Derham (Birchfield) was close to her season’s best with 67.25m in winning the hammer from Carys Parry (Rhondda) 63.40m.

PHILLIPS IDOWU (Belgrave) won the triple jump with a leap of 17.05m (1.8) with Nathan Douglas (Oxford City) third with 16.47 (-0.8). Charlene Thomas (Wakefield) kept her good form going in the 1500m with a second place in 4:07.73. Laura Kenney (Royal Sutton Coldfield) was fifth in the 5000m with a season’s best of 15:35.76 and Katrina Wootton (Bedford County) was seventh in 15:46.36.

Netherlands

DWAIN CHAMBERS (Belgrave) scored another sprint double with 10.22 (-0.9) in the 100m and 20.50 (0.0) in the 200m. Graham Hedman (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) recorded two season’s best times when finishing in second place in his 200m 21.31 (0.2) and in winning the 400m 46.12. William Sharman (Belgrave) won the 110mH in 13.63 (-0.6). Kim Wall (Basildon) won the 400m in 53.45 and Celia Brown (Coventry) also won the 800m in 2:03.42. Nikki Hamblin (Bays Cougars) U23 was second in the 1500m with a pb of 4:08.52.

Bulgaria

Pavel Pavlov International Athletics Meeting, Sofia, Bulgaria

CONRAD WILLIAMS (Kent) was the star performer with a pb of 45.63 in winning the 400m. Chris Hughff (Newham and Essex Beagles) was second in the javelin with 74.54m. Kadi-Ann Thomas (Marshall Milton Keynes) was fourth in the 100m in 11.78 (-0.8) and second in the 200m with 23.75 (0.2).

KATE DENNISON (Sale) kept up her good form with second place in the pole vault with 4.50m behind Anna Rogowska (Poland) 4.70m.

Internationale Bottroper Leichtathletik Gala, Bottrop, Germany

THE highlight of the meeting was another outstanding performance by Jessica Ennis (City of Sheffield) in the 100mH with victory in a lifetime best of 12.81 (1.5) to move to equal second on the British all-time list and only 1/100th behind Angie Thorp’s 13 year old record. Christian Malcolm (Cardiff) finished in second place 10.50 (-0.2) in the 100m after a 10.47 (0.7) heat and followed that up with another second place in the 200m with 21.27 (0.6). William Sharman (Belgrave) also took the runners-up spot in the 110mH in 13.62 (0.3) after a 13.58 (1.7) heat. Laura Turner (Harrow) took the 100m in 11.54 (0.2) after a 11.40 (0.4 heat with Anyika Onuora (Liverpool) fourth in 11.79 after a 11.59 (2.2) heat.

JOICE MADUAKA (Woodford Green and Essex Ladies) finished in fourth place with 11.65 (0.4).

TIM BENJAMIN (Belgrave) continued his resurgence with a second place in 45.54 which was only 3/100ths outside his season’s best. In the 100m Craig Pickering (Marshall Milton Keynes) scored another fine victory in 10.32 (-1.7) with Tyrone Edgar (Newham & Essex Beagles) fifith in 10.53 and Mark Lewis-Francis (Birchfield) seventh in10.53. Emma Ania (Shaftesbury Barnet) finished in second place in her 100m 11.54 (0.8) which equalled her season’s best. In the men’s 5000m Chris Thompson (Aldershot Farnham & District) led home the Brits in eighth place 13:26.84 with Nick McCormick (Morpeth) close behind in tenth 13:27.86 and Andy Vernon (Aldershot Farnham & District) in twelfth with 13:46.8. Michael Rimmer (Liverpool Pembroke Sefton) finished in a disappointing eleventh 1:50.05 in the 800m.

GREG RUTHERFORD (Marshall Milton Keynes) recorded his best outdoor jump of the season with a leap of 7.98m (-0.4). Tom Druce (Channel Islands) recorded a pb in winning the 400m in 47.18 and also finished in sixth place in the 200m with another pb of 22.11. Callum Priestley (Birchfield) finished in third place in the 110mH in 14.23 (-0.3) and Rhys Williams (Cardiff) ran 50.20 in the 400mH for second place. Damien Moss (Rugby & Northampton) ran an outdoor pb of 1:47.67 in third place in the 800m. Mark Draper (Bedford & County) ran 7:57.74 for fourth in the 3000m. In the women’s events Vicky Barr (Rugby & Northampton) finished in second place in the 400m in 53.17. Tara Bird (Woodford Green & Essex Ladies) finished fifth in the 800m in 2:04.97. Rebecca Peake (Sale) finished in second place in the Shot with a distance of 14.88m.

A LARGE British contingent competed in Celle Ligure and some of the highlights were: Jeffrey Lawal-Balogun (Kent) scoring a sprint double with 10.41 (-0.7) in the 100m and 20.82 (0.4) in the 200m. Elijah Winn (Enfield & Haringey) finished in fourth in the 100m with 10.78 and fifth in the 200m with 21.55. Gianni Frankis (Newham & Essex Beagles) finished in third place in the 110mH in 13.99 (1.3). Chris Hughff (Newham & Essex Beagles) threw the javelin 73.79m for second place. In the women’s events Helen Pryer (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) also scored a sprint double with 11.80 (-0.1) in the 100m and 23.59 (0.2) in the 200m. Kim Wall (Basildon) finished in first place in the 400m with 53.62. Meghan Beesley (Birchfield) finished in second place in the 400mH with 57.91 with Justine Kinney (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) one place behind in 58.46.

British Milers’ Club Grand Prix 3, Trafford, Manchester

IN a meeting of complete contrasts with the first half being held in warm and windless conditions, the second half was postponed for 35 minutes after a huge thunderstorm threatened to end the meeting such was the deluge of water it left on the track. After an unbelievable effort from BMC staff, officials and athletes, including international, Sam Ellis, to clear the track of water with bins and a water removing machine, the meeting finally re-started in good conditions. In the Men’s A 800m Steven Fennell (Tonbridge) won in a pb of 1:47.97 while Sam Eillis (Barnsley) continued his comeback with third place in a season’s best of 1:48.37. In the women’s A 800m Charlotte Best (Crawley) got the verdict over Amanda Moss (Cardiff) with both given the same time of 2:03.65. In the women’s 5000m in one of the best performances of the night, Freya Murray (Chester-le-Street) front ran most of the way to victory in 15:44.74 which was a pb by 21 seconds and Tina Brown (Coventry) also ran a pb in second place with 15:58.68. In the men’s A 1500m Jermaine Mays (Kent) won an exciting race in 3:40.0 from Bernard Kiplagat (Kenya) 3:40.2 while in the women’s A 1500m Leonie Waite (Rice (University) ran 4:17.1 to take victory from Kerry Harty (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) 4:18.6 (pb).
