Reward Running 2011

14 April 2011

Having recently passed the 10,000th claimant for the runbritain handicap scoring scheme that was launched last September, and with almost a million road racing results from UKA licensed events so far in 2010 and 2011, the latest addition to the free downloadable runner’s biog page is Reward Running 2011, in association with Sennheiser and adidas.

Launched this week, more than 200 end-of-year prizes of Sennheiser headphones and adidas mi-coach systems will be up for grabs for the runners who claim the most miles by New Year’s Eve.

Reward Running miles, up to maximum of 2,011, can be claimed online for a variety of different running activities including setting personal bests, joining or renewing at a club or group, competing in UKA licensed events, introducing a newcomer to running, lowering handicap scores and actual training miles logged. Each runner’s online biog page has a running totaliser of mileage earned and claimed throughout the year and from the Spring, there will be leaderboards nationally and regionally and a scrolling news ticker on the runbritain web homepage, recording progress and individual attainments in Reward Running 2011.

Free runner’s biog pages can be claimed by anyone who raced in a UKA licensed event in 2010 or 2011 by logging on to www.runbritain.com and following ‘Your handicap score’

Meanwhile, England Athletics has launched its Run England recreational running programme (11th April) in succession to the Run in England programme, previously delivered on behalf of England Athletics by the Women’s Running Network.

All existing jogleaders who have qualified through a Leadership in Running and Fitness course will continue to be covered for insurance purposes on the same terms. LiRF and the new Coach in Running Fitness courses are being offered in all parts of the country. The recruitment for four Regional Co Ordinators for Run England close shortly and local activators will be recruited in May and June.

The new Run England website went live on Monday at www.runengland.org and includes a new free online membership template. Run England Project Manager, Geoff Wightman said: “We hope that over the next few years, Run England will become the programme that links all of the different running initiatives taking place locally throughout England. We believe that there may be as many as 650 groups, formal and informal in nature, that are led by people who took a leadership qualification through England Athletics. The free online membership is intended to create a light touch communication platform to let them know about some of the other things that are on offer in running, locally and nationally, including information about clubs, races, courses and other groups. We are also getting a good initial response from affiliated clubs who would like to increase their senior membership capacity by creating Run England groups linked to the club.”
