Richard Schabel Passes Away

24 March 2014

The 2008 Beijing Paralympian Richard Schabel passed away over the weekend.

The seasoned and well respected international thrower had a successgul career that spanned 20 years of competing at the highest level.

A long serving member of the British Wheelchair Athletics Association, Schabel competed at four Paralympic Games; reaching his peaks in 1996 and 2004 where he finished fourth in the F50 club throw and F32/51 discus respectively.

His most recent Paralympic Games appearance was made in Beijing in 2008 where he finished inside the top ten in both of his events.

British Athletics Paralympic Head Coach Paula Dunn said: “It is with great sadness that we hear of Richard’s passing. He was a great ambassador for Para-athletics and it is a huge loss to the sport.”

British Athletics would like to send its condolences to Richard’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be missed by all.
