UK Athletics has today announced the appointment of a new Senior Independent Director to the board of UK Athletics who will join the board on 4 July.

Richard Worth will join the board of UKA in a Non-Executive capacity following an open recruitment process, focusing on commercial and marketing areas. His appointment will follow the departure of outgoing Director John Taylor, who will step down from the board in September.

Worth has held key roles in the area of sports presentation marketing and commercial strategy throughout his career, firstly as an Executive producer at ITV, before key marketing roles at TEAM Marketing AG leading the commercial operation for the UEFA Champions League, and as CEO of Sportfive, Europe’s largest sports marketing agency.

His involvement with athletics can be traced throughout his career, as Executive Producer of ITV’s coverage of the sport, through to securing a historic TV sales partnership with the IOC for European media rights of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games

Worth said:

“I am delighted to be appointed to this position on the UK Athletics Board. As a lifelong fan of many sports, and with a specific interest in athletics, I am certain I can offer a high level of experience to the role, and I have no doubt many were interested in this opportunity.

“Athletics is in a superb position in a post home Games era. Having the 2017 IAAF and IPC World Championships on the horizon as well as key events such as the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games taking place this year, the sport has so many opportunities to thrive both commercially and in terms of British performances.”
