UK Athletics is saddened to hear of the passing of 1964 Tokyo Olympic medalist and men’s team captain Robbie Brightwell.

Brightwell anchored the men’s 4x400m team to silver and finished fourth in the men’s individual event.

His fiancee at the time Ann Packer won 800m gold at the same Games and they married later that year eventually having three sons together.

UKA Interim CEO Mark Munro said:

“Our thoughts are very much with Robbie’s family at this time. Anyone who is a fan of athletics knows of Robbie and Ann and their achievements in those 1964 Games. He will be sadly missed by the sport.”
