Robert Stinson

5th April 2013

Life President of the British Athletics Supporters Club Robert Stinson MBE has died at the age of 82.

Stinson, spent 50 years in various roles in athletics including IAAF Honorary Treasurer for nearly 20 years between 1984-2003, various senior positions within the British Amateur Athletic Board, team manager for Great Britain teams, Chairman of the British Athletics League and Chairman of the Achilles Athletics Club for Oxford and Cambridge University athletes. Stinson also held the position of IAAF delegate at a number of major Championships and World Cup meetings in what was a distinguished career in the sport.

Not only was Stinson a part of overseeing the governance of athletics, but was also an accomplished athlete in his own right, representing Cambridge University over the 220 yards low hurdles against Oxford University from 1952-1954.

Stinson’s undoubted dedication and passion will go down in athletics folklore, and our condolences are passed to his family, friends and the colleagues who had the good fortune of working with him.
