The first race in the inaugural runbritain Grand Prix series took place on Sunday at the Reading Half Marathon with Dave Webb (coach: Bud Baldaro) and Liz Yelling the first British athletes home. Both athletes scored 250 points for their position with Webb scoring an additional 100 points for ducking under 65 minutes, giving him a 101 point advantage over Dan Robinson who finished just 13 seconds behind him.

The women’s race is a much closer affair since no time bonuses were earned. Yelling has 250 points and Susan Partridge is just one point behind with 249.

The five-race runbritain Grand Prix series, which concludes in October 2011 with the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon, offers a total prize fund of £55,000 for British runners based on their four best scores across the five events. The first 250 British male and female finishers in each race score points.

In addition, time bonus points will be awarded at each of the five races.

The 250 male and female point scorers from Reading will each receive a personal email invitation to enter, but those those who didn’t run at Reading can still accumulate their optimum scores from May onwards.
