After a sensational silver in the T36 100m final on his Paralympic debut, Ben Rushgrove has withdrawn from the 200m heats on medical advice.

Rushgrove, 20, who trains at the University of Bath High Performance Centre, aggravated a foot injury in his medal-winning performance and he was forced to collect his medal on crutches.

The ParalympicsGB and UK Athletics medical team have confirmed that there is a risk of longer-term damage if Ben was to line up in the 200m heats. Therefore, with his sights set on London 2012, Rushgrove will now turn his attention to supporting the rest of the team in Beijing.

Rushgrove said:

"Beijing has been a great experience and to win a medal in the 100m was fantastic. I am disappointed to not be on the start line for the 200m but the bigger picture is more important.

"I will now be concentrating my efforts on getting fit and beginning my preparations for the next major event."
