Sainsbury's British Athletics Indoor Championships To Be Streamed Live

4 February 2014

British Athletics has today announced that the Sainsbury’s British Athletics Indoor Championships will be streamed live via BritishAthleticsTV, giving sports fans from across the country the opportunity to watch the action live from the EIS-Sheffield on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February.

Over 400 athletes from all over the UK will be competing to be named British Champion and join a long line of athletics legends.

The live stream, which was viewed by over 100,000 people in 2013, will showcase some of the biggest British names including second fastest Brit ever over 100m James Dasaolu; Olympic high jump bronze medallist, Robbie Grabarz; World 100m hurdles bronze medallist Tiffany Porter; and Olympic pole vault finalist and British record holder Holly Bleasdale.

British Athletics’ Major Events Director Cherry Alexander MBE said:

“With over 400 athletes competing this weekend, the Sainsbury’s British Athletics Indoor Championships is set to be the biggest indoor domestic Championships we’ve ever had.

“The Sainsbury’s British Athletics Indoor Championships sold-out in record time and the interest of our fans, coaches, clubs and athletes last year was fantastic, so it was a natural decision for us to stream the action live again, and give people from all over the country the chance to watch some of the biggest names in British athletics compete in our most competitive indoor championships.

“We’ve seen an unprecedented demand for tickets for all three of our indoor events and we’re delighted that our 2014 season has sold-out across all three events – it shows the public’s appetite for athletics is very much alive.”

British Athletics also confirmed today that European U23 100m champion Adam Gemili (coach: Steve Fudge) will be swapping his spikes for a microphone on Sunday 9 February when he becomes a sports reporter for the day, conducting post-race interviews for BritishAthleticsTV.

The Blackheath & Bromley Harrier said:

“I’m really looking forward to taking on a reporter role at the Sainsbury’s British Athletics Indoor Championships. It’ll be fun to be on the other side of the fence, interviewing athletes rather than being interviewed – I think I’ll find it pretty tough at first but I’m definitely looking forward to it.”

Live streaming of the Sainsbury’s British Athletics Indoor Championships and Adam Gemili’s post-race interviews will be available via www.youtube.com/britishathleticsTV, from 15:30 – 19:00 on Saturday 8 February and 12:00 – 16:30 on Sunday 9 February.
