Selection Policies Announced

27 September 2007

UK Athletics (UKA) has announced selection policies for this winter’s events – with full Norwich Union Great Britain & Northern Ireland teams set to fly the flag at the major championships.

UKA has committed to fielding complete teams for both the European Cross Country Championships and the World Cross Country championships in a winter aiming to build on the successes at last seasons events where Mo Farah and Steph Twell won individual European Cross Country titles.

With the European Cross Country set to include the Under 23 championships following last years test races, there are even more opportunities for the UK’s endurance athletes during the 2007-08 season.

Spencer Barden, UK Athletics’ Senior Coordinator for Endurance said:

“Following our strength and successful results on the cross in recent years, and the benefit of a home championship in Edinburgh, it is a logical approach to use the World Cross as the next step for our endurance athletes making their way through the international competition pathway".

“As well as the cross country, there are team places available in the Chiba Ekiden as we use the winter representative opportunities as the building blocks for a successful Olympic summer track season.”
