UK Athletics has published the selection policies for the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, and the 2022 European Championships in Munich.

UKAs’ objective for the 2022 World Athletics Championships is to optimise medal success and the percentage of athletes progressing through rounds to reach finals.

All athletes who achieve qualifying standards for the World Athletics Championships will be selected subject to form and fitness (maximum three per event). Also, qualification via World Ranking will play an important part in the selection process. This step has been taken to ensure we are taking a competitive team to Oregon and using an approach which is fair across all event groups.

For the 2022 European Championships, our objective is to optimise medal success and to provide international experience for developing and established British athletes. UKA aim to select a large team for the Championships as in previous years, with the intention to accept all ranking invitations subject to the criteria laid out in the policy.

As outlined previously, there will be no trial for the Europeans, however, all top eight finishers at the 2022 World Athletics Championships who have achieved the European Athletics qualification standard(s) during the qualification period, will be automatically selected.

World Athletics Championships 15-24 July

Trial Events:

Marathon: 2021 London Marathon – 1 automatic position available

10,000m: 2022 Night of 10,000m PBs, 14th May 2022 – 2 automatic positions available

20km Race Walk: Event venue tbc, weekend of 30th April OR 7th May 2022– 2 automatic positions available

Combined Events – No Trial event*

35km Race Walk – No Trial event*

All other events – Muller British Athletics Championships Manchester, 24th-26th June 2022 – 2 automatic positions available

Selection will take place on 27th June.

European Athletics Championships 15-21 August

Trial Events:

Marathon: 2022 Manchester Marathon**, 3rd April 2022 – 2 automatic positions available (elite entry process will be confirmed soon)

All other events: No Trial event

Selection to take place after World Championships on 1st August.

*Given the limited qualification opportunities for these disciplines, there will be no specified trial in order to provide athletes the flexibility to target specific events that will best support them to achieve a qualification standard.
