SEVERAL BRITS IN DIAMOND LEAGUE FINAL ACTION

Several athletes head to Zurich for the first part of the IAAF Diamond League finale tonight as the end of the season is on the horizon.

Triple European champion Dina Asher-Smith (coach: John Blackie) will contest the 100m title amongst a stellar field including Marie-Josee Ta-Lou, Murielle Ahoure, Dafne Schippers and many more. The Briton has been a double winner on the circuit this summer, taking a 100m victory in Stockholm less than one week one from a fine second place in Oslo.

Elsewhere, fellow European champion Matthew Hudson-Smith (Lance Braumann) contests the men’s 400m final, after a second-place finish in Birmingham and third place in Rabat helped him to qualify for the finale. The strength is depth in this event is staggering with sub-44-man Steven Gardiner among the opponents for the Birchfield Harrier.

World and European relay champion Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (Dennis Shaver) will look to take his good form into the 200m, just a few weeks after his silver medal over the distance in Berlin. The world’s fastest man over the distance in 2018, Noah Lyles (USA), and current world & European champion Ramil Guliyev (TUR) head up the field.

Newly-crowned European medallists Holly Bradshaw (Scott Simpson) and Eilish McColgan (Liz Nuttall) will compete in the pole vault and 5000m respectively. McColgan will be joined by fellow Brit, Melissa Courtney (Rob Denmark), who won Commonwealth bronze over 1500m earlier this year.

Morgan Lake (Fuzz Caan) takes on a stacked high jump field including multi-medalled Mariya Lasitskene (ANA), while Charlie Da’Vall Grice (Jon Bigg) goes again in the 1500m. Eilidh Doyle (Brian Doyle) continues her season in the 400m hurdles final.

Shannon Hylton (Ryan Freckleton), Imani-Lara Lansiquot (Steve Fudge) and Bianca Williams (Lloyd Cowan) will all take on non-Diamond league 100m races prior to the main programme getting underway and will return to the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the 4x100m relay at the end of the programme, joining Asha Philip (Steve Fudge).

This is the first Final of the Diamond League, with 16 events coming to a conclusion in the Swiss Capital with $50,000 on hand to each individual winner. The second Final rolls into Brussels on Friday night.
