SIX ATHLETES WILL REPRESENT GB & NI AT THE MEMORIAL PARTIGIANI STELLINA

A squad of six will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the Memorial Partigiani Stellina on Sunday 28 August.

This is the first time since 2006 that Federations have been invited to send teams to the event which used to be a regular fixture in the International mountain running calendar. Six athletes will represent the country as athletes from around the world take part in this revived event.

The team contains Scout Adkin (coach: Angela Mudge, club: Ambleside) who won up and down bronze at the recent European Off Road Running Championships in Spain. She was also part of two medal-winning teams at the event last month and is one of Britain’s in-form mountain runners this summer.

Kirsty Dickson (Carnethy) and Sara Willhoit (Shrewsbury) are also called up for the team in Italy. Dickson was part of the senior women’s gold-medal winning team at the Euros as she came home as third counter in the uphill race.

Chris Richards (Duncan Richards, Helm Hill), who finished seventh in the up and down race at the Europeans, leads the men’s entries, alongside Dan Haworth (Matlock) and Joe Steward (Salford). These athletes were also part of the GB & NI team in El Paso, so bring their experience to the Italian invitational event.

The race distance is 14.3km with 1630m of climb in the Stellina. Runners finish on the mountain side and then take part in a church service commemorating the World Wars.
