SPRINTERS SECURE SEMI PLACES WITH PERSONAL BESTS

During today’s morning session of the IAAF World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, British sprinters, Ryan Gorman (coach: Karen Buck) and Cameron Tindle (Henry Gray) cruised into this afternoon’s semi-finals of the 200m with new personal bests.

In near perfect conditions, Gorman won his heat comfortably breaking his lifetime best to finish in 20.84.

Gorman, a Notts AC athlete, said: “This was just what I wanted to do and it’s what I need to do. I have come to the competition in the right mind set.  I have prepared well and it was good to get started after a few days here in Bydgoszcz.”

Edinburgh’s Tindle finished second in the fourth heat, also securing a new personal best of 20.78.

Delighted to be safely though, he said: “I didn’t get the start I wanted.  I was a bit sluggish but I have been working at coming off the bend and relaxing.  It took about 20m for that to kick in but once it did I felt confident.  I am happy with my run and know I can go faster.”

European Junior Champion, Adam Hague (Trevor Fox) safely negotiated the pole vault qualification taking just two jumps to progress to Saturday’s final. Hague, who has recovered from a nasty hand injury cleared 5.10m and 5.20m.

Afterwards he said: “It was a very nice day which is really helpful for the pole vault. Two jumps is all it took so I am really happy. It is a great stadium with a fast track so I am hoping for another nice day on Saturday. It is good to get through with fewer jumps and conserve my energy for the final.”

Charlie Myers (Chris Boundy) finished 18th after three failures at 5.20m so unfortunately will not progress.
