There is likely to be a first class women’s under 20 3000m at the St Mary’s Classic Meeting , held at St Mary’s University on Wednesday 4 June, featuring St Mary’s own Stephanie Twell (Aldershot Farnham & District AC). The current European and British Universities cross country champion will be competing for the first time since injury forced her to curatil her Cross Country season earlier this year.

Mo Farah (Newham & Essex Beagles) will feature in the men’s 1500m invitational as he focuses on some under distance work ahead of the summer.

Nick McCormick (Morpeth Harriers & AC), Adam Bowden (Harrow AC) and Rory Fraser (Owls AC Leicester) line up in potentially a fantastic men’s 3000m domestic race.

The event will also feature a primary schools relay, Kelly Holmes and Steve Cram relays for secondary schools, and invitation 1500m races for under 17 men and women.

This year UK Athletics has teamed up with St Mary’s to promote some higher level races at 800m and 1500m which will offer a final opportunity for athletes to show themselves for selection for the forthcoming European cup.

Professor Dick Fisher, of St Mary’s University College, said: "The College is delighted to be able to push this meeting up a level in partnership with UK Athletics, building on the successful relationship that has driven the highly successful Endurance Performance Centre at the University College, which supplied over 30% of the runners who turned out for the various age group teams in the last European Cross Country championships."
