04 February 2015

There were some impressive British performances at the Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland last night as the indoor season continues to heat up.

World Indoor champion Richard Kilty (coach: Linford Christie) bounced back from his disqualification at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow International Match to finish second behind Kim Collins in the men’s 60m. Kilty clocked 6.64 in the first round before going down to 6.57 in the final, with 38 year old Collins equalling his personal best of 6.48 set last week.

Sean Safo-Antwi (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo) finished a place behind his GB & NI teammate in 6.61 following an opening round, which saw him clock 6.64.

Jenny Meadows (Trevor Painter) is also looking in formidable form following her second sub-2 minute 800m in a few days, with the 33 year old taking the victory in Torun ahead of home favourite Joanna Jozwik in a time of 1:59.85

Fresh from setting a new lifetime best on the weekend, Lucy Hatton (Alex Clark) continued her strong start to 2015 winning the 60m hurdles in 8.06 to equal the UK U23 record held by Lesley-Ann Skeete. Hatton’s time has taken her to seventh in the world in 2015 and top of the UK rankings.

Commonwealth Games finalist Guy Learmonth (George Gandy/Henry Gray) was fifth in the 800m with a season’s best of 1:48.43, while Jamie Bowie (Piotr Haczek)  was the fastest British athlete over 400m crossing the line in 47.28.
