scottishathletics is pleased to confirm that two leading presenters have been added to the line up for the prestigious European Athletics Coaches Association (EACA) Conference to be held in Glasgow on 1st and 2nd November 2008.

Former Great Britain team coach David Sunderland, who throughout a successful career to date has coached endurance athletes to World, European and Commonwealth medals, has been confirmed as the endurance workshop leader and will bring his insight and coaching knowledge to the event which is attracting major attention across Europe.

A highly respected IAAF coach educator, Sunderland has lectured across Asia, Africa and Europe and has combined his travels with national coaching roles for Great Britain in middle distance and steeplechase events.

Commonwealth Games medallist Robert Weir will travel in from the United States to lead the throws workshop.

Weir, boasting a highly impressive CV as both a coach and athlete, will share his considerable experience with conference delegates. Currently the head track and field coach at Stanford University in California with a responsibility for technique development, strength and conditioning and mental preparation, Weir has also been a USA team coach at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka (2007) and Helsinki (2005) and the world Junior Championships in Beijing (2006).

Further success has followed in his role as the personal strength coach of US Olympic shot silver medallist Adam Nelson and eight times gold medallist and former world record holder swimmer Jenny Thompson.

During a lengthy competitive career spanning 22 years, Weir competed in three Olympic Games and won Commonwealth hammer and discus titles, in addition to discus bronze on two occasions. He was a hammer silver medallist at the 1983 World Student Games and set a world record for the 35lb weight throw in the same year.
