Swansea 2014 Volunteer Programme

30 January 2014

With 200 days to go to the start of the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea, the ‘Champions’ volunteering programme has been launched with the aim of recruiting up to 1000 volunteers to help deliver the event.

This unique volunteering opportunity will see the ‘Champions’ deployed in a variety of roles including assisting at the venue, driving, translating and media operations.

Paula Dunn, British Athletics Paralympic Head Coach, believes that this is an exciting opportunity for potential volunteers.

She said: “Today marks another milestone on the road to the IPC European Championships. There was a great volunteer base in Lyon that helped to create a hugely successful IPC World Championships last year and I’m sure Swansea 2014 will be no different. It’s not just the athletes that make a championship, but it’s also the people in the background right from volunteers to coaches that create a world-class environment.”

Swansea 2014 will take place at the Swansea University Sports Village between 18-13 August 2014 and will see around 600 of Europe’s best athletes compete for honours as they make their way towards the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Applicants must be 18 or older to apply and need to be available for ten days around the championships. Full training will be given to all successful applicants.

To apply for the programme please visit www.swansea2014.com before Sunday 30 March.
