As the start-lists ahead of this coming weekend’s Muller Anniversary Games go live, teenage sensation Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR) and double Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM) being two of countless world-class athletes who has been confirmed for this year’s Müller Anniversary Games.

Aged just 18, Ingebrigsten set the world alight last year as he won double European gold over 1500m and 5000m. Racing over 5000m this coming weekend, competition to the Norwegian in London will be stiff as he faces some of the quickest in the world this year including Hagos Gebrhiwet (ETH) who is third quickest in the world this year.

Six Brits will tow the line including Scottish record holder Andrew Butchart (coach: Chris Layne club: Central AC), close to his personal best already this year in Rome and will be aiming to go one better in front of a home crowd.

Double Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM) has been in red-hot form as of late, coming very close to her national record twice already this year and will have her eye set on breaking 10.70 in London. Fresh from the second quickest time of her life with 10.91 in Lausanne, Dina Asher-Smith (coach: John Blackie, club: Blackheath & Bromley) could be the Jamaican’s biggest threat for the win in a stacked field.

Just like the male equivalent, the women’s 5000m has rose in stock thanks to the confirmation of Sifan Hassan (NED) in the race. Hassan is the 3000m and 5000m European record holder as well as the new world record holder for the mile after a blistering race in Monaco last Friday.

Having enjoyed such a stellar year already and clearly in the form of her life, Hassan could be in shape to break her own European record, while if conditions are favourable in London the 26-year-old could also eye Tirunesh Dibaba’s world record of 14:11.15 from 2008.

Among a host of stacked events, the women’s long jump will see three of the best in the world face off with world leader Malaika Mihambo (GER) go head-to-head with four-time world champion Brittney Reese (USA).

Three Brits have also been confirmed with Shara Proctor (Rana Reider, Birchfield Harriers), Heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Bertrand Valcin, Liverpool Harriers) and Lorraine Ugen (Shawn Jackson, Thames Valley) all in the field, with the event offering a great opportunity for both Proctor and Ugen to jump the 2019 world qualifying standard of 6.72m ahead of September’s championships.

Further British interest sees sprinter Oliver Bromby (Southampton) lining up in the men’s 100m for one of his biggest career outings to date on the back of winning silver at the European U23 Championships last week.

Finally, returning to competition following recovery from a motorcycle accident, James Ellington (Newham & Essex Beagles) will line up in the men’s 100m in what will be his first race since August 2016.

The Müller Anniversary Games takes place just ten weeks before the IAAF World Championships in Doha.

The two-day Diamond League event has seen history made on numerous occasions in recent years, with some memorable performances from British names such as Sir Mo Farah, Laura Muir and Dina Asher-Smith, while para athletics stars Kare Adenegan and Sophie Hahn both broke world records at the 2018 edition of the event.
