With this year’s hotly-anticipated Muller British Athletics Championships taking place just a month before the IAAF World Championships, competition is expected to be fiercer than ever.

We are now just 100 days away from a British Championships that will see track athletes from 100m through to 5000m and all field-eventers targeting Doha competing in Birmingham at the 101st edition of the championships.

The Championships are lined up for August 24 & 25 at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, with the most crucial test of the summer of rivalries coming hot on the heels of the Muller Anniversary Games and Muller Grand Prix Birmingham.

The culmination to a major summer of athletics in the UK, the best of Britain will once again guarantee plenty of drama at Alexander Stadium with World Championships selection on the line.

Some team members for Doha 2019 have already been selected in the walks and marathon but otherwise it’s pride, medals and selection for a major championships up for grabs as over 650 athletes go head-to-head and 36 champions crowned.

Momentous performances are always guaranteed at the British Championships and more are to be expected this August, just as Beth Dobbin flew to a 200m Championships Record last summer and Dina Asher-Smith kick-started for gold-laden 2018.

And the 2019 British Championships will have added significance with it marking the final year at Alexander Stadium before redevelopment ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes, Laura Muir and Matt Hudson-Smith are some of the hottest athletes in the world right now, and they’re all set to light up the track in Birmingham.

Last year witnessed a rejuvenated British Championships with record athlete entries and the strongest attendances in some time, well on track to be beaten in 2019.

There were standout performances across the full range of track and field events, with that game-changing performance from young Scot Dobbin and Asher-Smith’s scorching 100m among the highlights.

Career-changing performances are often seen at the British Championships and this was the case with Dobbin, who blistered home in 22.59, a huge improvement on her sixth-place finish in 2017.

Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake also grabbed a Championship Record in the men’s 200m to retain his title, while Morgan Lake memorably did the same in the high jump courtesy of 1.97m, the second best mark ever by a Brit.

And who can forget perhaps the contest of the entire Championships as Jazmin Sawyers, Commonwealth bronze medallist Shara Proctor and world indoor bronze medallist Lorraine Ugen went head to head in the long jump – with Ugen coming out on top.

Sawyers produced a personal best and all three athletes exceeded 6.70m, but Ugen unleashed her mammoth effort of 7.05m in the second round to make history with a world lead and Championship Record.
