Three reigning world medallists will take to the track in a must-see head to head when the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow heads to the Emirates Arena on Sunday 25 February.

The number one ranked indoor athletics meeting in the world, the Grand Prix returns to Scotland having been held in Glasgow for the first time in 2016, with 2018’s edition seeing two para athletics races – the T44/64 and T35/37/38 60m – set to take place in the middle of the event’s programme.

Having each picked up silverware at last summer’s World Para Athletics Championships, sprinters Maria Lyle (coach: Jamie Bowie, club: Team East Lothian), Sophie Hahn (Joe McDonnell, Charnwood) and Olivia Breen (Aston Moore, City of Portsmouth) will take centre stage when the T35/37/38 60m takes place in Glasgow.

Lyle (T35) defied the odds to pick up two medals in London with double bronze over 100m and 200m, while T38 athletes Hahn and Breen each achieved podium-topping antics in the 100m and 200m and long jump respectively, with both Hahn and Breen also showing good form in 2018 with personal best times over 60m already posted this year.

Eight-time global medallist and reigning triple European champion, Dunbar-born Maria Lyle shared her excitement to race at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow, saying:

“To be included in the field for the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow is so, so exciting – I haven’t competed competitively in Scotland since 2013, so I can’t wait to get out there against some girls who are obviously unbelievably quick and see what I can do.

On her expectancy of a huge home crowd in Glasgow, the 18-year-old added:

“If the reaction I got back home on the back of winning double bronze at the Paralympic Games in 2016 is anything to go by, I expect the crowd in Glasgow to be crazy.

“I’ve been lucky enough to travel to all corners of the world so far with the likes of Rio and Doha, so to be able to get in the car and drive to a race along with my family is going to be something different and really special.”

British Athletics Major Event Director, Cherry Alexander commented:

“It’s crucially important that we continue to give para athletics the spotlight it deserves at our major events, so to have four world and Paralympic medallists – many of whom are also world record holders – lining up against one another in Glasgow is very special for the fans and will make for must-see races.”

Supported by EventScotland, part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate, the Müller Grand Prix Glasgow is the final of the prestigious IAAF World Indoor Tour, with wildcards for the IAAF World Indoor Championships available to athletes who have not already qualified to compete for their nation.
