Throwers Head To Halle

19 May 2017

Nine British athletes are heading to Germany this weekend to compete in the Halle International Throws event on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21May.

In the hammer, World Championship finalist Nick Miller (coach: Tore Gustafsson) will look to extend his British record after throwing just four centimetres below his 77.55m record in California in April.

British champion and second on the all-time UK ranking list, Jade Lally (Andrew Neal) will seek to improve on last year’s eighth place in Halle in the discus.  This weekend’s event will be European finalist Lally’s first major of the season following another winter training in Australia.

In the shot put Rachel Wallader (Richard Woodhall) will be targeting the World Championship qualifying standard of 17.75m, and she will be joined by Adele Nicoll (Vladmir Zinchenko), fresh from winning the BUCS Championships.

Elsewhere, British Champion Scott Lincoln (Paul Wilson) competes in the men’s shot put. Zane Duquemin (John Hillier), who is looking to improve on last year’s tenth place in the discus in Halle is showing good early season form with four 60m plus throws.

In the senior men’s javelin, Harry Hughes (Michael McNeill) will be looking to repeat last year’s success in Halle where he produced the third best throw ever by a British junior to win the U20 event.  Hughes is in good form having recently won the BUCS championships with a personal best throw of 76.81m.

Taylor Campbell (John Pearson), who also won this year’s BUCS championships with a personal best throw of 73.4m, competes in the U23 hammer throw.

George Evans (Colin McCulloch), who continues to make good progess following his bronze in the IAAF World Youth Championships in 2015 and making the final in the IAAF World Junior Championships, competes in the U20 discus. He has already thrown a personal best this season with 60.37m at a meeting in Portugal.
