Tickets On Sale For Sainsbury's Summer Series

10 April 2014

Tickets for the 2014 Sainsbury’s Summer Series go on sale today, with the world’s box office athletes return to the UK.

Kicking off the season in style is the Sainsbury’s British Championships on 27-29 June, where Britain’s best go head-to-head at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium in a battle to be crowned British Champion and not to mention the fight to win their places on the GB & NI team for the European Championships in Zurich in August.

The Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix will make history as the Hampden Park national stadium hosts its first ever IAAF Diamond League on 11-12 July. Double world and Olympic champion Mo Farah (coach: Alberto Salazar) and world 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu (Lloyd Cowan) will be joined by Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo), who has confirmed his participation along with Paralympic silver medallist Libby Clegg (Keith Antoine).

Rutherford said: "What a treat to be able to step out into Hampden Park, and again compete in front of a home crowd. I know from London what I can do with the crowd behind me and I can’t wait to get that opportunity in Glasgow.

“I’d tell any Scottish sports fan to get their tickets now for the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix because you’ll be seeing the best athletes in the world at a great venue, especially if you missed out on Commonwealth Games tickets."

In the second of two visits of the IAAF Diamond League, Ohuruogu and Farah will join the world’s biggest stars at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on Bank Holiday weekend in August.

Olympic champions Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce, Aries Merritt, Jessica Ennis-Hill (Toni Minichello), James Dasaolu (Steve Fudge), Sally Pearson and Adam Gemili (Fudge) have all starred at the prestigious meet over the last few years and the Alexander Stadium is set to witness more fireworks in 2014 as world-class athletics returns to the West Midlands.

Niels de Vos, Chief Executive of British Athletics, said: "2013 was a great year for British Athletics culminating with the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, which sold out in just 75 minutes.

“This year we expect the Sainsbury’s Summer Series to again sell out, and I’d urge fans to act quickly to guarantee they get their hands on some of the best tickets in another action-packed summer of sport in the UK."

The season will finish with a return of the Sainsbury’s IPC Grand Prix Final on August 25, which will welcome some of the biggest stars in Paralympic sport. Last year, London 2012 gold medallists and home favourites Jonnie Peacock (Fudge), Hannah Cockroft (Jenni Banks) and David Weir (Jenny Archer) all shone at the Alexander Stadium and the stage is set for another explosive finale this year.
