Ticketshare Scheme Announced

29 July 2011

UKA can today announce the launch of Ticketshare in partnership with the British Olympic Association, and Welsh Athletics. The scheme will provide young adults involved in clubs the chance to attend London 2012 for free.

London 2012 Ticketshare is open to members of all affiliated athletics clubs aged between 18-26 who will get the chance to attend the Games accompanied by a British Olympian.

Clubs need to nominate members who best represent one or more of the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. This can be in their performances, support of the club or other members and should be outlined in no more than 150 words.

All nominations will be considered by a panel selected by the Home Country Federations to which the club is affiliated.  Each winner will receive one ticket, which includes free transport within London zones. Clubs can nominate as many athletes as they wish as long as they can demonstrate their commitment to the Olympic Values

Welsh Athletics Chief Executive Matt Newman said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to experience a home Olympic Games and inspire their own sporting ambitions, be it as an athlete, official or administrator.

“I look forward to reading the nominations and I’m sure we’ll hear some truly inspiring stories along the way. I would encourage all clubs to nominate members aged between 18-26 and they could find themselves sat alongside a British Olympian next summer.”

The nomination needs to contain the following

  • Nominee’s name and contact details

  • Club contact and details

  • 150 words on how the member ‘lives’ the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

Nominations need to be sent to ticketshare@uka.org.uk by 2359 hrs on 15 September 2011.
