Chris Tomlinson (coach: Frank Attoh) made superb progress in his 2011 long jump campaign with a new UK record at the Samsung Diamond League meeting in Paris on Friday night.

Tomlinson, beat fellow Brit Greg Rutherford (coach: Dan Pfaff) by 8cm in a high quality meeting at the Stade de France, with a  new UK record of 8.35m.

After he said: "I knew I was doing pretty well in training so expected the record sometime soon.

"Today I got my take-off angle right and so was able to achieve the mark. But to think about a good position in Daegu I still need to improve on that record. It’s not enough to win in Daegu but I can attack the other medals. That is my goal."
