Tony Ward, founder of the BAL (British Athletics League), died yesterday leaving behind a rich legacy within the sport of athletics.  Tony, who was the official spokesman for British Athletics for more than a decade was also a level 4 coach.

He penned several books, including Athletics: The Golden Decade and contributed to newspapers and various athletics magazines, Ward was heavily involved in the sport and widely respected. 

UKA CEO Niels de Vos said: “’This is indeed a sad day for the sport.  Tony’s contribution to athletics in Britain was remarkable, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts go out to his wife Gwenda and their family and friends.”
