The British Half-Marathon Championships – incorporated into the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham – saw Nicholas Torry and Katrina Wootton (coach: Harvey Rose) claim the title of British champion in the men’s and women’s fields respectively.

For Torry, a posting of 1:06:28 saw him become British Half Marathon champion; the 39-year-old taking second in the overall race behind Barnaba Kipkoech of Kenya, the eventual half-marathon champion in a time of 1:05:55.

Claiming silver and bronze in the championships behind Torry were Alastair Watson and Kevin Rojas (Allison Benton) in 1:06:38 and 1:08:06 respectively. Watson’s silver-medal winning exploits saw him revise his lifetime best by eight seconds, with Rojas’ time a season’s best on the half-marathon circuit following two runs in Worthing and Brighton earlier in the year.

In the women’s category, Wootton blew away the British competition to become national champion, breaking the tape in 1:13:25, a lifetime best by some three minutes for the 31-year-old. The time was also good enough to see her finish second overall in the women’s discipline, with Kenya’s Winfridah Moseti the first woman over the finish line in 1:12:52.

The closest two Brits to Wootton were Tracey Barlow (Nick Anderson) in 1:15.22, and Eleanor Davis (John Scott) in 1:16:33, with both women securing spots on the podium.
