Trio Picked For 100km Worlds

25 July 2016

Three athletes have been selected for the annual IAU World 100km Championships to be held in Los Alcazares, Spain on Sunday November 27th 2016.

Jo Zakrzewski finished fifth at the championships last year but did earn European bronze for her efforts. An ever-present member of GB long distance running teams, the Durham athlete has gone from strength to strength in the last few years, and has already been selected for the IAU World Trail Championships team later this year.

She ran a ten minute personal best at the championships in the Netherlands last year, posting a time of 7.31.33 to propel her to fourth on the UK all-time list. The 40 year-old will be looking for a similar result this time around on the Spanish circuit.

In the men’s race, two experienced athletes in Craig Holgate and Marcus Scotney (self-coached) will fly the flag for the British team.

Holgate, who was the highest placed Briton last year when he finished 12th in the world, joined the elusive sub-seven hour club in 2015, recording a best of 6:53.22 to take him to 13th on the UK all-time list. Similarly, Scotney also went under seven hours last year with a time of 6:56.12 and will once again be looking for a strong individual position.
