Steph Twell (Aldershot Farnham & District) will join athletics glitterati this weekend when she collects a prestigious award from European Athletics.

Twell, who was last month voted the Waterford Crystal female European Athletics rising star of 2008, will attend the awards dinner on Saturday evening, which forms part of the weekend timetable at the European Athletics Convention in Amsterdam.

She will receive her award alongside Russia’s Pole Vault Olympic Champion and World Record holder Yelena Isinbayeva and Norway’s double Olympic Javelin Champion, Andreas Thorskildsen.

Meanwhile, reigning Olympic, World and Commonwealth champion Christine Ohuruogu (Newham & Essex Beagles) has been nominated in the Sportsperson of the Year category for the ICAP Square Mile Sport Awards 2008.

The ICAP Square Mile Sport Awards will be the first major sports awards of the year to select the sporting heroes of 2008. Now in their third year, City Executives in the Square Mile have been logging on to www.squaremilesport.com to vote in the various Awards categories
