Twenty Years On...

Rewind two decades and it was this week 20 years ago that on a Friday night in Germany, the world tuned in to witness history being re-written.

It took just 12.91 seconds for Colin Jackson to cement his status as a truly world class performer when he smashed the world 110mH record in spectacular fashion during the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart.

The Briton finished almost a tenth clear of fellow countryman Tony Jarrett to secure the world title, and was the only athlete in the field to dip under the elusive 13-second barrier. At the age of 26, the feat marked Jackson’s first of two world titles, shaving one-hundredth off the previous world record held by American Roger Kingdom.

The record would remain with Jackson for 13 years until China’s Lui Xiang went three-hundredths better in Lausanne in 2006.
