29 September 2007

UK athletes brought down the curtain on the track season in style by winning three of the four international middle distance road races staged on Tyneside as the prelude to the BUPA Great North Run.

Andy Baddeley (Harrow AC) and Lisa Dobriskey (Ashford AC / Loughborough Students) succeeded in the 1 mile races while Mo Farah (Newham and Essex Beagles) won the men’s 3000m much more emphatically than 12 months ago.

Baddeley controlled his race all the way at the end of his breakthrough summer, crossing the line in 4 minutes 6.9 seconds, six-hundredths ahead of Rui Silva (Portugal). “It was pretty straight forward, though I am tired,” he said. “I think this was my 15th race in 16 weeks. But there is no better way to finish, with so many people supporting us.”
