U20/u23 Teams Set For International Combined Events Match

19 February 2016

Sam Talbot (coach: Eldon Lake) heads the U20 team in Spain after an impressive display at the England Indoor Combined Events Championships in Sheffield last month. Talbot set a world best score by a 16 year old in the indoor heptathlon with a lifetime best of 5510 points, setting a PB in all seven events. After competing in the Decathlon at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali last year, he will be excited at the prospect of pulling on the British vest once again this weekend.

Double World Junior champion Morgan Lake (Eldon Lake) has been selected for the U23 women’s event. Lake won the U23 competition at the international match last year and helped to guide the British team to overall gold in the 2015 edition. After competing for the senior British teams at both the IAAF World Championships in Beijing and European Indoor championships in Prague last year, the 18 year-old will be seeking to build on those performances at this early stage of the season.

Niamh Emerson (David Feeney) will spearhead the U20 women’s team in the indoor pentathlon in Salamanca. The Amber Valley athlete equalled her personal best at the England age-group Championships last weekend, matching her 1.82m clearance at the IAAF World Youth Championship last summer.

Aiden Davies (Bruce Bewley), third in the senior men’s event in Sheffield, will lead the U23 men’s team in the heptathlon, on his debut appearance for the British team.

The event follows the same format as the senior competition last month with individual and team medals up for grabs across the weekend. The British athletes will take on combined eventers from France and Spain.
