Jez Bragg and Adela Salt were the individual victors in the UK 100k Championships in Edinburgh on Sunday.

The event, which was incorporated into the Self Transcendence 100k race at Heriot-Watt Uiniversity, also saw England’s men and women teams triumph in the Anglo-Celtic Plate home countries international.

26-year-old Bragg from Solihull, who came to prominence last summer when he smashed the record for the 95 mile West Highland Way trail race, ran an incredibly even paced race to claim the UK title.

Matt Lynas (Thames Hare and Hounds) and Paul Harwood, Leamington set the early pace reaching half way in 3:22:35 with Bragg some 9 minutes behind in 3:31:04. 

Running the second half of the race only three minutes slower, he took the lead around the 45 mile mark from Harwood and finished in 7 hours 4 min 45 secs.

Trentham’s Adela Salt, also running her first 100km, took the ladies title in a new Scottish all-comers performance of 8:14:39, a time just 21 seconds inside the UK qualifying mark for the World 100k championship in Holland in September.

Two debutantes in the Scottish team claimed the national titles of the host nation. Paul Hart (Dumfries RC), ran a well judged race to finish in 5th place overall in 8:10:27 with Anglo-Scot Sandra Bowers (Road Runners Club) also showing she has a promising future by claiming the Scottish title and also the silver medal in the UK championships in a time of 9:04:44.
