Mark Lewis-Francis (Birchfield Harriers) shot to the top of the Power of 10 national 100m rankings by clocking 10.19 seconds at the Artur Takac Memorial meeting in Belgrade on Tuesday night, 29 May.

It took him ahead of the 10.25 registered by his fellow Olympic 4x100m gold medallist Marlon Devonish (Coventry Godiva Harriers) in Hengelo on Saturday.

MLF finished equal third in a race won in a blistering 9.97 seconds by world record holder Asafa Powell (Jamaica) in a race in which Jason Gardener (Wessex and Bath AC) finished fifth in 10.28 in his first individual race since he won his fourth successive European Indoor 60m title.

Lewis-Francis said: "I’m glad I got such a good result against a very strong field out there. Obviously there is a long way to go to the World Championships, which are my main aim this summer. It’s still early days – I feel as if I’m back in the dance but there is still a lot to do and some hard training to put in."

While Churandy Martina (Netherlands Antilles) finished second in 10.11, Lewis-Francis and 2005 World Championships runner-up Michael Frater (Jamaica) could not be separated for third.

Tim Abeyie (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) won the 100m ‘B’ race in 10.35 seconds with his Bath training partner Ryan Scott (Yates and District AC) third in 10.37.

Helen Clitheroe (Preston Harriers) was fourth in the 1500m in 4:12.92 in a race won by Lakthouad Btissam (Morocco) in 4:07.25.

Allan Scott (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) was fourth in the 110m hurdles in 13.72 seconds while Dan Cossins (Birchfield Harriers) improved his season’s best from 47.88 at the Loughborough International to 47.75 for sixth place.

Emma Ania (Shaftesbury Barnet) was also sixth in her 100m, clocking 11.44, nine-hundredths slower than the time she registered in the USA last moth to head the current Power of 10 rankings. Iveta Lalova (Bulgaria) won in 11.26 in her first race since a freak accident in warm-up two years ago almost ended her career.
