With two months to go until the 2025 AJ Bell Great South Run, The Great Run Company and UK Athletics are pleased to announce the return of the UK Athletics 10-Mile Championship event on the road. The UK Athletics 10-Mile Championships will be held at the AJ Bell Great South Run, the world’s favourite 10-mile race on Sunday 19 October .

Jack Buckner, Chief Executive of UK Athletics, said: “We’re thrilled to reaffirm our partnership with The Great Run Company and bring the UK Athletics 10-Mile Championships to the 2025 AJ Bell Great South Run.

“The Great South Run continues to be a fantastic celebration of British running in the UK, with this year’s offering top distance runners the chance to experience the stunning south coast. This event will play an important role in developing British athletic talent, helping them prepare for success.

“I’m positive the British public will once again come out in full support and create an unforgettable atmosphere.”

Paul Foster, Chief Executive, The Great Run Company, said: “The addition of the UKA 10-Mile Championships to this year’s AJ Bell Great South Run timetable adds to what’s set to be a fantastic weekend of running.

“For 35 years, hundreds of thousands of participants have crossed the Great South Run finish line, including incredible athletes, such as Liz McColgan who won in 1995 and 1997, and Eilish McColgan whose third time winning Great South Run in 2021, set her 10-mile PB of 50:43, and marked the women’s course record, and European best for 10-miles.

“Chris Thompson, now retired, won Great South Run over three consecutive years, so it is very exciting to host the UKA 10 Mile Champs for the first time, and continue to welcome and support an excellent field of athletes on our start line.”

Call for UKA 10-Mile Entries

While the 2025 AJ Bell Great South Run is sold out, there are a limited number of Championship entries available to registered club runners from a UK Athletics affiliated club who meet the following entry criteria:

• Male – a 10-mile race performance of 55 minutes or faster, since 1^st January 2024
• Female – a 10-mile race performance of 65 minutes or faster, since 1^st January 2024

Athletes who do not have a 10-mile race result but feel they have an equivalent performance over 10K or Half Marathon should get in touch.
