UK ATHLETICS AND THE HIVE COLLEGE UPDATE

25 May 2018

UK Athletics continues to work with The Hive College, Wilson Stuart School offering six-week work placements for young adults with a disability or learning difficulties. So far, UK Athletics has welcomed three students from The Hive and in April and May were graced with the presence of Mehar Khan who supported the Health & Safety team and the HR team during her six weeks.

My Time at UK Athletics by Mehar Khan:

“My name is Mehar and I go to the Hive College. I have been doing a work placement at UK Athletics for one day a week on a Thursday for four weeks. I have been busy with several important tasks including data inputting, creating certificates, emailing and filing as well as answering the phone to Michael Hunt, who has been my manager during my time, and speaking to him via skype. I would keep him up to date with my progress for example that I was getting on really well with the certificates that he asked me to do.”

“I have met new people at UK Athletics and I have become more confident talking to everyone. For the first time I was able to introduce myself to my work colleagues which is something I have not been able to do before. I have learnt that I am good at admin and I enjoyed doing the filing, creating certificates and emailing. Thank you for having me at UK Athletics and for being really friendly.”

Health and Safety and Facilities Co-ordinator, Michael Hunt, said:

“Mehar helped myself in particular for two days inputting course participant data into pdf certificates; this was by no means a simple task but Mehar completed it accurately and effectively.

“Although I was not able to attend the office during Mehar’s placement I spoke to her on the phone and via skype videoconferencing. Mehar came across as a friendly, confident and articulate person and she was an absolute pleasure to work with. I hope she has great time at Butlins in a few weeks and enjoys her future career.”
